In shipbuilding, welding steel hulls and modules is a critical process requiring high standards of precision, quality and operational continuity. The strong reliance on manual activities, combined with complex geometries and particularly demanding working conditions, can slow down production, increase the risk of defects and affect operator safety.
The objective was therefore to introduce higher levels of automation while maintaining operational flexibility, consistent quality and greater workplace safety.

To address these requirements, a Physical AI solution was implemented based on an intelligent welding robot equipped with computer vision, adaptive sensors and Embedded Intelligence capabilities. The platform can recognize and follow complex geometries, dynamically adapt to structural variations and operate autonomously or in collaboration with human operators.
Through Human–Robot Interaction capabilities and self-learning mechanisms, the system continuously optimizes welding parameters, ensuring constant monitoring, high execution accuracy and full traceability of completed activities.
