The University of Naples Federico II, one of Europe’s leading universities with more than 72,000 students, needed to evolve its digital infrastructure to improve accessibility, security and service quality.
The project stemmed from the need to create a centralized hub for digital services, including the new institutional portal and several restricted areas. The objective was to build a modern, scalable and reliable platform capable of supporting cloud-native applications and an advanced digital experience.
Key priorities included reducing operational complexity, accelerating service delivery, improving communication with students, faculty and users, and ensuring high standards of security and resilience.

Solution: one platform to connect with every stakeholder
DGS has been working with the University of Naples Federico II for more than 10 years, continuously maintaining and evolving both the university portal and the Liferay-based platform.
In 2023, through Vista Technology and SMC Treviso, both part of the DGS ecosystem, the entire digital environment was redesigned and rebuilt. The project combined a Kubernetes-based cloud-native platform with a Digital Experience Platform, delivering efficiency and flexibility for AI Modernization.
An open, scalable and automated infrastructure was built using GitOps and Infrastructure as Code, supported by CI/CD pipelines for the continuous delivery of microservices. At the same time, the new institutional portal and restricted areas were developed, providing a single access point to services and improving content management through simplified editorial tools.
The solution was completed with observability and security capabilities integrated by design from the earliest project stages.
