Setting course for innovation: with TEAM-ONE, DGS leads the Digital Transformation of the nautical sector

Through the TEAM-ONE project, DGS is bringing advanced digital solutions to the recreational boating industry, driving sector innovation with technologies like digital twins and generative artificial intelligence.
The nautical sector is getting ready to set sail toward the future thanks to TEAM-ONE – Technology for Enhanced Application in Modeling and remOte assistance – a Research and Development project led by DGS in collaboration with the Competence Industry Manufacturing CIM4.0 center and supported by national PNRR funds.
The 12-month initiative aims to introduce advanced digital tools into the recreational boating industry — a sector traditionally low in digital adoption — by offering SMEs accessible, high-impact technologies such as digital twins and generative AI tools to optimize the entire product lifecycle, from design to maintenance and after-sales support.
TEAM-ONE includes the testing of three real-world application scenarios:
- Training and maintenance support: easy access to manuals and technical data for crews and maintenance staff.
- Remote assistance during navigation: real-time support to resolve onboard malfunctions and issues.
- Process optimization in shipyards: leveraging digital twins to enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability in boat construction and maintenance.
Also actively contributing to the project is the research team from SMC, part of DGS’s Open Source Competence Center, which will work on the evolution of the open source platforms Digital Lake and OpenK9, enhancing their capabilities for data management and analysis in advanced industrial environments.
DGS confirms its role as an enabler of digital transformation in manufacturing, promoting accessible, sustainable, and inclusive innovation in line with the principles of Industry 5.0. With TEAM-ONE, the future of recreational boating sets sail — driven by technology, efficiency, and vision.
